This month’s Employee Spotlight shines on one of our sales Super Stars. John Marshall leads the Louisville Sales this year. The businesses that John has brought to Unified over the last year are a pretty good example of his passions.
From a large sports complex in Indianapolis to the Louisville Bats, Louisville City FC, and Restaurant Supply Chain Services (which supply all YUM brand restaurants), John has taken his love of sports and food and turned it into great opportunities for Unified. We’ll be looking for him to partner with some businesses in the music industry next. Here’s a little more about John in his own words.
Tell us a little bit about the type of work you do at Unified Technologies and your job responsibilities.
As a Sales Consultant, my job is to find companies and offer our solutions to help them.
When you aren’t at work, what keeps you busy?
I spend most of the spring and summer going to UK baseball games where my two boys (Tyler and Brett) both play; my wife (Lynne) and I both have large families, so we also have a lot of family get-togethers.
Have you always been in this industry? If not, what brought you where you are today?
I’ve been in and out of the telecom industry over the last 25 years and I owned my own sports training business in between.
What’s one thing you love about what you do for a living?
Finding ways to help companies grow and become more efficient at what they do, and often times saving them money as well. That’s the best.
What you do for fun or to unwind?
Lynne and I walk and exercise, and we go out with friends occasionally as well.
If you could do one thing for a living that had nothing to do with your current job, what would it be?
Manage a Major D1 Level College team or a Major League Baseball team.
Is there something fun or interesting that you’d like people to know about you?
I’m a huge music fan, especially vintage rock – Beatles, Stones, Zep, Van Halen (David Lee Roth days), AC/DC, etc. I also like the 80’s-90’s alternative bands like REM, The Cure, The Smiths, etc. But I also like a wide range including today’s music – especially Coldplay, U2 (since the 80’s, actually), Red Hot Chili Peppers (again going back a while), The Record Company, Avett Brothers, etc. My wife and I have also become avid Netflix viewers, watching a lot of series (I never watched TV shows before except for Seinfeld).
Favorite food or snack?
Pizza, any kind of pasta, sushi, about anything with chicken, and let’s just say there’s not much I don’t like…(seriously, John – you’re not going to tell them about your sweet tooth?)
Family info – kids, siblings, where are you from, born?
Born in Louisville; youngest of 6 kids.
