Jean is one of those employees that works diligently behind the scenes. Most customers have never seen her but her hands touch every order and piece of equipment that goes out the doors of Unified Technologies. Jean hails from Indiana and is a proud graduate of Purdue University. And after working with Jean for over 10 years I can tell you that there’s a good chance she can be convinced of anything with the right amount of chocolate. Here’s a little bit more about Jean, in her own words.
Tell us a little bit about the type of work you do at Unified Technologies.
I am the Warehouse and Purchasing manager.
List out a few of your job responsibilities.
I order items, check-in boxes, stock shelves, and stage parts for jobs. I keep track of job parts which can be challenging as we have jobs that literally can run into hundreds of phones with six or seven system locations. I am responsible for keeping our shelves stocked with our different phone system types—ShoreTel, Mitel, NEC, and Samsung. I also prepare the invoices for customers and Theresa in Accounting checks them and sends them to the customers. I also pack up and send off phone items to be repaired.
When you aren’t at work, what keeps you busy?
I have lots of relatives and cousins in the area which lead to lots of BBQ’s and birthday parties.
Have you always been in this industry? If not, what brought you where you are today?
I have been in the phone industry for ….(ahem) …..some years. I have worked at CEDCO, Expanets, US Voice & Data, Blueprint Technologies, and now Unified Technologies.
What’s one thing you love about what you do for a living?
The people I work with. They are supportive and funny and hard-working.
What you do for fun or to unwind?
I read a lot of books and go to movies. My cousins and I like to go to amusement parks like Kentucky Kingdom and Holiday World.
If you could do one thing for a living that had nothing to do with your current job, what would it be?
Working with Habitat for Humanity The Kentucky Humane Society (I love animals).
Is there something fun or interesting that you’d like people to know about you?
My dad is a retired bricklayer with over 40 years in the trade and I helped him and his friends with building our house on the land he bought (I was hammering boards, drying-walling, etc). I was a young teenager at the time we started on the house and I was in my senior year of high school by the time we actually moved into the house. (We did it in stages as he got the money.)
Favorite food or snack?
Dark Chocolate. My Facebook motto is “Always keep a smile on your face, A rainbow in your heart, And Chocolate in your hand.”
Family info – kids, siblings, where are you from, born?
I have two brothers younger than me and a lot of cousins. I have a lot of distant relatives on my grandmother’s side of the family that I have never met because she was orphaned at an early age and raised by her much-older brothers.
