Every Year celebrities flood our cities and most of us sit back and watch from the sidelines as they party on Derby Eve. Well, this year, you could easily be one of those VIP’s.
Our good friend and business partner, Chris Cook of Louisville Endodontics, is hosting an event that benefits CreatiVets. The official name of the event is theCHIVE’s Official Harley Davidson Derby Hog Roast. It will be held at Cook’s Barn in Prospect.
Tickets went on sale yesterday, Thursday, April 21, 2016 at 2:00pm, but you can get yours at the official ticket site right here.
The tickets cost $100.00 each for VIP and includes special parking, live music, a beer garden, food, spirits and more. FYI, Derby infield admission is $60.00 and does not include any food or beverage, so why not party at Cook’s Barn instead? Ticket sales are limited to 1,000 so hurry and get yours!
CreatiVets offers opportunities of relief and healing for the men and women who have sacrificed so much our country. Using various forms of art, including songwriting, visual arts, music and creative writing, their goal is to help disabled veterans cope with service-related trauma (i.e. post-traumatic stress, or PTS) by fostering self-expression in a way that allows them to transform their stories of trauma and struggle into an art form that can inspire and motivate continued healing.
According to the Department of Defense, one in five veterans of the Iraq and Afghanistan wars are diagnosed with PTS – over 300,000 veterans by the end of 2012. The social and economic costs of PTS are immense, and the Department of Veteran Affairs reported in a February 2013 study that the veteran suicide rate in the United States is 22 suicides per day, or one every 65 minutes. Veterans now account for 20% of suicides in the United States.
This is a growing problem in our country that we can actual play a small part in while playing around on Derby Eve. Please consider joining us. And if you can’t join the party, please consider helping this wonderful organization, and in turn our veterans, by making a donation through the CreatiVet web page.
