Did you know that, nestled in Butchertown right outside downtown Louisville, there is a company that produces copper stills used in the distillery process? It’s Vendome Copper & Brass Works and business is booming right now for this 100 year old company. With the growing popularity of micro distilleries, Vendome is busy filling orders for start ups across the country. From Washington State to Durham, NC to Louisville’s own Whiskey Row. Brewing and distilling aren’t the only industries relying on Vendome’s products. Chemical, Pharmaceutical, Dairy and Confectionary are some of the other industries that use Vendome’s vessels to manufacture their products.
I spoke with 4th generation, Barbara Hubbuch yesterday when she called for service on her Mitel phone system. Yes, Vendome is one of our customers. My curiosity (and love of bourbon) got the best of me and I asked her about the company. The story was fascinating. Did you know that this company (remember they make distillery equipment) survived during Prohibition? Check out their story and remember the next time you sip a cocktail that Vendome may have played a part in creating that drink.
