I pulled up to our office this morning and saw a crowd in the conference room. Fearing that I had missed a meeting, I immediately checked it out. It was a training session for our technicians. Brian Jackson, with Strothman IT Services – one of our strategic partners, was discussing VLAN’s, their benefits and the importance of separating voice and data to insure the quality of voice calls. Apparently our technical staff holds breakfast meetings every other week to stay on top of the ever changing technology we work with every day.
At lunch, Lance Mehaffey, MHA and ShoreTel’s Vertical Program Manager for Healthcare visited with our sales teams in Louisville and Lexington (via video). He explained the benefits some of ShoreTel’s advanced applications bring to the Healthcare Industry. Some of his suggestions led to a few ‘aha’ moments. Of course you could use this software to streamline that process. The light bulb went off several times during his presentation.
I came away feeling much sharper which made me think of the phrase “Sharpening the Saw”. I’d heard it before but couldn’t remember exactly where, so naturally, I googled it.
Definition – Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have—you. According to Stephen Covey, “It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental and spiritual.” So…we can check mental for today. And because we, here at UT, work to stay current within our industry, our customers can rely on us, giving them time to spend learning other useful information as they sharpen their saws.
