LOUISVILLE, KY – Starting in 2004 with a mission of providing home-bound patients the highest quality primary care in an at-home setting, MD2U’s substantial growth made them quickly realize the need for a stronger telecommunications network that could connect their 80+ employees across the United States. Early on, a cloud-based, hosted solution allowed the company to start-up quickly and cost-effectively. However, as the company experienced rapid expansion throughout the country, it started noticing quality issues within the existing system. The frequency of dropped calls increased and they constantly exceeded the number of faxes the Packet 8 System allowed.
In 2011, Unified Technologies began working with MD2U to install the company’s first dedicated IP telecommunications network. The new network was designed to be scalable in order to keep up with the company’s projected growth. MD2U’s Nurse Practitioners who are located all over the country use a softphone application on their tablet devices that connects them to the Patient Care Coordinators in the Louisville, Ky. headquarters. The use of this new technology has allowed MD2U to eliminate its exorbitant cell phone costs and immediately process patient visit information and prescriptions through their Electronic Media Records (EMR) system.
Unified Technologies has also worked with MD2U to provide local phone numbers in the individual cities where the Nurse Practitioners reside. Using SIP trunks, local patient calls in cities across the country are delivered and handled in the Louisville headquarters. “MD2U definitely had the need to ‘own’ its own telecommunications system,” says Todd Doyle, Unified Technologies sales consultant. “Their needs are consistent with those of a rapidly growing company. They quickly outgrew their original hosted solution so they invested in a flexible platform that will not only easily grow with them, it provides new and exciting technology for MD2U’s staff. 40 Nurse Practitioners will have an HQ extension on their tablets allowing them to dial any other extension or place an outside call through the Main office lines. Employees at HQ will have complete UC functionality including instant messaging and the ability to host audio and web conferences. A call center designed to handle the incoming call volume was also included in the design. ”
